Seed Swaps

We have a seed swap box open to all. The aim is to save and recycle surplus seed within the Walled Garden and the wider community to reduce waste and support local and budding gardeners.

How it Works

Seeds to Take Away/Swap – these are stored in a long, white plastic tub which we regularly put out on the barrow in the centre of the garden. Seed packets are organised alphabetically. Anyone is welcome to take what they want. If the box isn’t there, please ask a volunteer for help.

Seed Donations – Please place any seed packets you want to swap in the box in the relevant alphabetical section. Please ensure the seeds are not outside their expiry date (recently expired will be accepted).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I don’t have any seeds to donate. Can I still take some seed?

A. Yes you can. Perhaps you could pledge to grow a few spare plants from the seed for the Walled Garden to use or sell, or you could leave a small cash donation (under £1).

Q. I cannot get to the Walled Garden to do a swap in person, can I still take part?

A. Yes you can. We of course recognise that not all our supporters live nearby. You can post your seed packets to us at: Seed Swap, Llanfrechfa Grange Walled Garden, Grange House, Llanfrechfa Grange, Cwmbran, NP44 8YN.

Q. The swap list only contains vegetable and herb seeds. Are you doing flowers as well?

A. Yes we are doing flowers as well but we need some help sorting out our surplus stock first. We would welcome any one who could help us with this. In the meantime, you are welcome to donate flower seed as outlined above. Please contact us if there are particular flower seeds you would like to have and we will check whether we have them.

Q. I won’t use a full packet of seed, can I donate opened packets or split a packet to take a few seeds?

A. Yes that is acceptable. Just make sure the top of the packet is firmly secured afterwards please.
